What new laws are impacting this midterm election?

Welcome to Episode Two of Ballot Briefs: General Edition 🗳️ Abby Cook, Staff Attorney at the ACLU of Utah, breaks down everything you need to know about HB209 and voting by mail.

🪪 HB 209 requires individuals to provide proof of citizenship to vote in state elections. If you are already registered to vote in Utah, this does not affect you.

📬 New changes to the vote by mail system in Utah won’t take effect until 2029 meaning you can vote using your mail-in ballot as usual.

The Utah State Board of Education has added 7 titles to the banned book list, bringing the total to 44!

Utah’s sensitive material law disregards decades of professional judgment by trained librarians and educators whose job is to match students with the books they need most.

Freedom cannot protect itself; the ACLU of Utah will continue to fight for the freedom to read.
