20 years ago today I was prosecuting criminal cases in the District Court in Wicomico County. During one of many recesses, the bailiff told me that a plane had crashed into the WTC. At that point, it seemed to be a horrible accident. In a later recess, I learned of the second plane attack and twin towers collapse. At first, I didn’t believe it to be possible, until I saw the video that was replaying constantly on every station. I thought of my cousin’s wife who was injured in the 1993 WTC bombing, and hoped that she escaped somehow. I later learned that she was not at work that day, thankfully.
My next thought, other than sadness for the victims, was that this was the Pearl Harbor Day for our generation. I am thankful for the efforts made by our then President and military to restore some degree of justice to the perpetrators.
