In 2016, after 26 years of practicing law in our North Carolina courts, I decided I wanted a challenge. I applied to join the CJA Panel (the court appointed list in federal court) in the federal court for the Middle District of North Carolina (MDNC) and have been representing individuals charged with federal crimes, both retained and by court appointment. Shortly after joining the CJA panel in the MDNC, I also joined the panel in the Western District of North Carolina, where I’ve done the same type of work, retained and appointed.

I’ve contemplated sitting for the exam given by the NC State Bar’s Specialization program to become recognized as a specialist in federal law for a couple of years and finally did it in October.

I was pleased to receive notice today that I passed and can now hold myself out to the public as a Board Certified Specialist in Federal Criminal Law by the NC State Bar. It means that I’ve exhibited the knowledge, expertise, and training required by the program to hold myself out as someone who devotes time to staying current with federal criminal law and is experienced in dealing with the unique challenges of federal criminal law.

I want to thank my partners and our staff at the Law Firm of Whitley, Jordan, Inge, and Rary for their support everyday.

The Law Firm of Whitley, Jordan, Inge & Rary are proud to have been selected as the first location for a rather unique, but very important project started by our retired Senior Partner, Cecil Whitley.

If you have an American flag that is showing signs of significant wear and tear, such as fading, tears, fraying, or a thin/transparent fabric or that is showing other signs of wear like dirt or streaks, a dull blue star field, or the material feels weak and could tear , you are invited to bring it to the law office of Whitley, Jordan, Inge & Rary and place it in the Flag Retirement box in front of our office. Once a week, the flags will be removed and taken to a local American Legion Post and properly retired by veterans who will treat them with the dignity they deserve.

We would like to thank Cecil for selecting our office as the first location and look forward to seeing more of these boxes in and around Rowan County!

The day has finally arrived…after 137 years of life and 53 years of practicing law in our community, “The Old Man” is finally hanging up whatever lawyers hang up when they retire. He is handling his last case today-a speeding ticket.

For me, it’s been a 23 year partnership with all the ordinary ups and downs. He has led by example and taught me how to be a better man, a better lawyer, a better husband and a better father. I will miss his smile, his humor, and his positive attitude about life when I walk into the office every morning…I did not take his example on court room attire. Wendy will miss the alarm company calling at 6:30 am telling her that Cecil has set off the office alarm off AGAIN!

Thank you for all you have done to lay the foundation for Whitley, Jordan, Inge & Rary, Attorneys and Counselors at Law. You’ve made us all better people.
