Many thanks to the Shepard Broad College of Law at NSU for setting up this fellowship so quickly and so beautifully.

We are looking forward to many years ahead working with law student fellows serving public interests in environmental, historic preservation, sea level rise resilience, public lands and other local quality of life land use concerns.

We are so fortunate that the Miami Design Preservation League in Miami Beach is an integral partner in launching this fellowship program, and we can expect to see great work and results from them and the public interest law fellows starting this summer.

In my experience as a mediator, I see that ineffective communication, rather than real substantive differences, is frequently the root of many disputes and is also the biggest obstacle to resolving disputes.

People often fail to truly hear and understand each other, they disregard each other's concerns, speak over each other, cut each other off, point fingers and don't recognize their own shortcomings.

My role as a mediator is to help people communicate more effectively. I facilitate conversations aiming to resolve disputes by making sure that both people can fully express themselves and understand each other, identifying genuine issues, exploring potential solutions, and assisting with creative problem solving.

In these difficult and uncertain times relationships can be especially tense and difficult for spouses, partners and roommates spending a lot more time together at home. Resolving disputes may be even more urgent now than during "normal times", so people in conflict can shelter together peacefully.

Although mediators cannot currently meet with couples in person, mediations can be conducted with video conferencing tools like Zoom that enable people to "meet" together and also to "break out" in "rooms" with their mediator for private conversations.

If sheltering at home with your spouse, partner or roommate is making you miserable, and you need to resolve your issues right now, even temporarily, so problems don't get worse, with online conferencing an effective mediator can guide you through a productive problem-solving conversation.

If you would like to resolve issues in your relationship right away, before things get worse, so that sheltering at home can become more tolerable, I am available to mediate online with you now.

You are not alone. Effective professional assistance is available. You can send a Facebook message to me (please don't share your private information in a comment to this post), call my office at 954-874-2935 (calls are forwarded to my cell phone), or email me at [email protected].

Be well and stay safe.

While working from home, I can help you navigate through challenging times.

Has isolating at home with a spouse, partner or housemate exposed problems or aggravated issues in your relationship?

Or are you having co-parenting disputes over time-sharing, social isolation, personal hygiene, health care or home-schooling?

Maybe you and a sibling are unable to agree about health care decisions for an elderly parent?

I am an experienced Florida attorney and certified mediator for Florida family, circuit and county court cases.

I can help you to understand your legal rights and the possibility of resolving disputes now, from our homes, by mediating with online or telephonic conferencing.

Call me at 954-874-2935 for a free initial consultation.

Sincerely,

Stuart Reed
