E-bike drivers need to follow the same rules. Keep yourself safe to help reduce the risk of injury.

Our Traffic Officers recently spent the day downtown educating e-bike riders about the rules of the road—and enforcing them.

We continue to receive complaints about e-bikes that can travel faster than the legal 28 mph limit and riders ignoring traffic signs and signals, especially downtown.

A few reminders for all e-bike riders:
🚲Stop at stop signs and red lights.
🚲 Use bike lanes when they’re available.
🚲 E-bikes cannot exceed 28 mph.
🚲 When riding on sidewalks, do not use the motor.

E-bikes have the same rights—and responsibilities—as bicycles. Ride smart, follow the rules, and help keep St. Pete’s streets and sidewalks safer for everyone! 🚓

Call or friend or an uber-don’t risk putting yourself and others in danger.

"I'll just sleep it off in my car."

This may sound responsible, but under Florida law, it can still be a DUI.

You don't have to be driving to be charged. If you're in "actual physical control" of the vehicle, meaning you have the immediate ability to drive it, that counts. Sitting in the car with the keys in reach can qualify, even if you're asleep.

And that nap won't save you either. Alcohol takes longer to leave your system than most people think. Even if you wake up under the legal limit, fatigue, dehydration, and sleep deprivation from a night of drinking can impair your driving on their own.

Always plan ahead. Line up a sober driver or a rideshare before you need one.

🚸 Slow down in school zones.
🛑 Stop when the bus stop sign is out.
👀 Watch for kids walking and biking.
⏰ Arrive at the bus stop about 5 minutes early.
🚌 Wait in a safe place away from the road—never in the street or on the curb.

SPPD will be out and about keeping an extra eye out for our kids. 💙

🚨Operation Southern Slow Down! 🚨

Tomorrow (7/15), traffic officers are conducting a traffic operation throughout the north side of the city.

St. Pete PD officers are joining law enforcement agencies across the Southeast for Operation Southern Slow Down, a coordinated traffic safety campaign focused on reducing speed-related fatalities and serious injury crashes. Officers will be targeting speeding and aggressive driving violations to help keep our roads safe for everyone.

Safety starts with all of us. Slow down and help keep our streets safe. 🛑
