📰 FEATURED COMMENTARY: Boggs Law Group’s Amy Boggs Featured in The Florida Trib

A contractor’s state license can provide important information. However, homeowners should still take time to understand who they are hiring and what they are signing before any work begins.

A new investigative report from The Florida Trib uncovers troubling allegations of deceptive practices among Florida home-repair contractors and examines the regulatory system responsible for contractor licensing and oversight.

Attorney Amy Boggs of Boggs Law Group was invited to provide legal commentary for the article. She shared insights on contractor agreements, insurance-related issues, and the risks homeowners may face when asked to electronically sign documents they have not had a chance to fully review. The article also highlights complaints involving unexpected loans, liens, disputed charges, and other challenges affecting Florida homeowners.

For property owners, this story reinforces an important message: a license is not a substitute for due diligence. Ask questions. Read every part of the agreement. Make sure you understand what you are signing, and always keep copies of your documents.

⚖️ Rights matter. Understanding them matters, too.

On Individual Rights Day, we recognize the importance of knowing the rights and protections available to us. Having a voice when those rights are challenged is essential.

At Boggs Law Group, that principle guides the work we do for Florida policyholders every day.

An insurance policy creates rights and responsibilities for both the policyholder and the insurance company. When a property claim is delayed, denied, underpaid, or disputed, understanding what your policy provides and what options are available can make all the difference in what happens next.

Our role is to help policyholders navigate these issues and advocate for their rights throughout the insurance claim and litigation process.

Today is a reminder: knowing your rights is the first step to protecting them.

⛈️ A typical Florida afternoon storm turned destructive in a matter of moments for some Brevard County residents.

WESH 2 reports that high winds near Cocoa damaged roofs, awnings, carports, trees, and other property after a storm rapidly intensified. According to photographs and radar evidence, the National Weather Service estimated winds reached 50 to 60 mph. The damage was likely caused by a downburst, not a tornado.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and neighbors quickly came together to help one another begin cleaning up.

For property owners affected by the storm, cleanup may only be the beginning. Wind-related damage is not always limited to what can immediately be seen. Additional issues may become apparent as properties are inspected.

If your property was affected, consider documenting visible conditions when it is safe to do so. Keep inspection and repair records, and review what your insurance policy requires following a loss.

If a property insurance claim from this storm is delayed, denied, undervalued, or disputed, Boggs Law Group can help you understand the issues affecting your claim and advocate for your rights as you pursue available policy benefits.

The storm happened quickly. Knowing what comes next is essential.

⚠️ When a product fails, the damage can reach far beyond the product itself.

Every day, we trust that the products we use will work safely. But when something is defective, malfunctions, or creates an unexpected hazard, the results can include serious property damage and, in some cases, personal injury.

Uncovering what went wrong often leads to important questions. Was the product itself at fault? Did a component fail? Was it installed or assembled incorrectly? Were the instructions or warnings clear enough? Could more than one party be responsible?

At Boggs Law Group, we help Florida property owners navigate the legal issues that arise when a defective or malfunctioning product causes damage. We investigate the circumstances, identify potential avenues for recovery, and advocate for our clients when another party may be responsible.

The product may be where the problem started. Understanding the full impact is where our legal analysis begins.

If a defective or malfunctioning product has caused damage to your Florida property, contact Boggs Law Group to discuss your situation.

🏡 WHAT EVERY FLORIDA PROPERTY OWNER SHOULD KNOW:

Small Roof Problems Can Become Bigger Repairs.

A lifted shingle, damaged flashing, a small opening around a vent, or a minor stain on the ceiling may not seem like major concerns at first. However, Florida’s wind, rain, heat, and severe weather can put extra stress on an already compromised roof. This can allow water to reach areas you cannot easily see.

Paying attention to the first signs of a roof problem is essential.

If you notice something unusual, take these steps:
🔎 Check for visible changes after severe weather.
📸 Photograph any damage or changes you observe.
💧 Watch for new stains, moisture, or signs of water intrusion.
🛠️ Address conditions that could lead to further damage.
🧾 Keep records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.

If property damage leads to an insurance claim, your documentation may help establish what was observed and when.

Small signs can provide important information. Don’t overlook what your property may be telling you.
