Denim Day began in 1992 in Italy when an 18-year-old girl was r***d by her 45-year-old driving instructor. He was initially convicted of the crime, but later appealed his conviction and won under the premise that because her jeans were tight, she must have helped remove them and therefore, it was consensual s*x. Enraged by the verdict, women protested by wearing jeans to dispel the myth that clothes have a role in why women and girls are r***d. To this day, Denim Day is recognized on a Wednesday in April to remember that there is no excuse and never an invitation to r**e.

The Collab at 3833 recently hosted the “Be the Wave Keep St. Pete Blue Art Show.” The event elevated artists, showcasing their works, and the importance of elections, voting, and activism.

Starlett Massey of Massey Law Group, P.A., Liz Moneymaker, Estate Planning, Probate & Asset Protection Attorney of Ferrarri, Butler, and Moneymaker PLLC, and Kristina Feher of Feher Law introduced the performing artists and guest speakers. Presenters included the League of Women Voters of the St. Petersburg Area, the Pinellas County Democratic Party, and House Democratic Leader Fentrice Driskell's team.

In celebration of the Collab at 3833’s two-year anniversary, we hosted a special event, “The Art of Fashion,” featuring a drag queen performance. Also, coinciding with our event was the U.S. court’s blocking of Florida’s drag performance restrictions, which gave us even greater cause to celebrate.
