We are shocked to learn the passing of our colleague, judge Tsegaye Ayichilu. Tsegaye was Oromia Supreme Court judge.

Judge Tsegaye made it quickly all the way to the Supreme Court after serving as a District Court Judge immediately after law school.

Judge Tsegaye’s untimely departure should trigger in our mind a question as to what have we done for our people to leave behind an undying legacy?

Judge Tsegaye stood tall when the legal profession in general and the judiciary in particular continues to be marred by the nasty political tradition in Oromia and Ethiopia.

May your soul Rest In Peace Judge!

IOLA Officer, Bahar Oumer writes about the legal technicality of the armed conflict between Ethiopia and Tigray regional State. He argues, among other things, that the threshold of military hostility is more than what’s legally required to call the situation a war, not a law enforcement operation.

A comprehensive national dialogue would be the only way out of Ethiopia's simmering political predicament.
