Re: Meyer Law PLLC and COVID-19
Good morning,
As our state and our nation face one of the more difficult and uncertain periods of our lifetimes, many businesses, organizations, and individuals face difficult decisions.
Many of my small business clients have faced the difficult decision as to whether or not to stay open. Networking and professional organizations have chosen to cancel or hold virtual meetings and training events. Many people have reached out to my office with a new urgency to draft wills, healthcare directives, and make other plans.
This is all being done while we see chaos in the marketplace, shortages in stores, and some uncertainty in our own lives.
For those that do not know me well personally, before becoming a lawyer I worked for the Minnesota National Guard’s Joint Operations Center, the office that planned for and managed the National Guard’s response to natural and other disasters, much like this one.
Personally, I also have members of my family who are immunocompromised. I also have an 18-month old daughter in daycare and a wife who is a public-school teacher. Every new day of cases and closures has given me pause as I think through how to best to continue to provide my services to clients.
With my family and my clients in mind, and based upon my experience with disaster management, I have decided that Meyer Law PLLC will change some basic business practices to ensure we can continue to serve our clients while following the guidelines of the CDC and other government agencies.
Effective Immediately through April 1st, 2020, Meyer Law will hold no unnecessary in-person meetings at my office or elsewhere. I have video and phone conferencing capabilities that will be utilized to conduct regular business and all initial consultations or advising appointments.
We will continue to hold in-person depositions, will and estate plan signings, and other actions that require in-person interviews or signing of documents.
If you are currently scheduled for an in-person meeting with me, myself or someone from my office will be reaching out over the course of the next few days to confirm your appointment or to schedule an alternative virtual meeting.
Additionally, if you are a current or new estate planning client, we will continue the process uninterrupted. I will be exploring some options for remote notarization and providing witnesses virtually, but in the meantime, we will still do our document reviews through email and conduct a singing meeting in-person until further notice.
If you have a court appearance scheduled, you should be aware that the Minnesota Supreme Court has issued complex guidance as to what hearings and events will continue as scheduled and which will be delayed for a period of two weeks. We are currently working with court staff to confirm dates and times of hearings and will reach out to you when we have confirmation of any changes.
I value your business and your support, and I am committed to continuing to provide exceptional and personal legal services to you and our Minnesota community as our response to the coronavirus develops. We will be answering phones, responding to emails, and continuing to work.
I look forward to getting through this with you all, together as one team.
