ISSUE BRIEF
Medicaid Estate Claims: Perpetuating Poverty & Inequality for a Minimal Return.

Allow states more discretion to refrain from collection efforts against the estate of someone who received Medicaid benefits. Our national elder law group, NAELA, is involved in getting Congress to make these changes.

Vermont, and 6 other states, already allow a family residence to be passed down to the next generation even if Medicaid paid for the decedent’s long term care. NH does not!

There’s an inch of snow and falling heavily this morning. It’s going to slowly melt into the warm earth over the next 2 days. “A poor farmer’s fertilizer” as the ole expression goes due to its high nitrogen content.
