Today, we’re sharing some difficult news from our office.

Our beloved Fletcher has passed away.

Fletcher wasn’t just Mollie’s dog, he was part of our team. He came to the office every day and somehow made his way into just about everything we did… meetings, consultations, depositions you name it. And in every one of those moments, he brought something special.

He had a way of making people feel comfortable when they needed it most. For many of our clients, Fletcher was the first to greet them and the one who helped ease nerves during some really tough days.

To us, he was more than an office dog. He was a constant presence, a source of comfort, and a friend to everyone who walked through our doors.

We know many of you met him and loved him... just like we did.

He will be deeply missed. 💙

Understanding Illinois Maintenance (Alimony) Laws
Divorce can be overwhelming, especially when it comes to questions about spousal maintenance (formerly known as alimony).
In Illinois, maintenance isn’t automatic. Courts look at multiple statutory factors, including income differences, length of marriage, earning capacity, and future financial needs. In many cases, a formula is used, but that doesn’t mean outcomes are simple or predictable.
If you’re asking:
✔️ Will I have to pay maintenance?
✔️ How much could I receive?
✔️ How long will payments last?
✔️ Can maintenance be modified later?
You deserve clear answers based on Illinois law, not guesswork.
At Peskind Law, our experienced family law attorneys guide clients through complex financial issues with strategy, precision, and advocacy. Whether you’re negotiating a settlement or preparing for court, we help protect your financial future.

Small Shoulders, Big Burdens: Keeping Kids Out of Divorce Drama

Divorce is never easy—feelings run deep, and it's natural to want your children to understand your side of the story. But when parents drag kids into adult conflicts, those little shoulders end up carrying far too much.

🔹 Kids are not your confidantes.
🔹 They’re not therapists.
🔹 Let them just be kids.

Yes, children need to know about the divorce—but how you tell them matters. A mental health professional can help you deliver the news gently, provide age-appropriate answers, and keep a united front.

Even if the other parent starts “sharing first,” resist the urge to respond through your children. That can deepen their emotional burden. Instead, consult with your lawyer to find a thoughtful, indirect way to address it.

The Key Take Away:
Children don’t need to know who filed first or who's “at fault.” What matters is that they feel safe, loved, and not responsible for what's happening. Let your attorney manage the legal side, let a therapist guide the tough conversations, and let your kids be kids—unburdened by adult worries

Your children don’t need to know who filed first, who’s “at fault,” or why the marriage broke down. What they do need is reassurance that they are loved, supported, and not responsible for the divorce.
