I’ve known who Dolly Parton was for as long as I can remember, but I’ll admit, I wasn't much of a country music fan growing up—I mostly stuck to the radio hits of the day. My perspective really shifted in 2007, when I was fortunate enough to be asked to join the board of directors for the St. Augustine chapter of her Imagination Library after leaving the State Attorney’s Office.

It was a humbling introduction to a program that truly embodies the idea of giving back. Dolly’s vision was simple but profound: to make sure every child, regardless of their circumstances, has access to books. It’s such a powerful, generous concept. It really made me stop and think about the impact a single book can have on a child’s imagination.

I never had the honor of meeting her, but her dedication to children she’ll never meet is deeply moving. It’s a quiet, powerful kind of kindness that stays with you. The world is a much better place because of people like Dolly, and I’m just grateful I had the chance to play a small part in her mission.

The Feeling of Upholding Justice is Unbeatable!

While some offices boast about wins, we boast about protecting the INNOCENT! Terry Shoemaker and the Shoemaker Law team secured a hard-fought NOT GUILTY verdict today in a DUI case.

Watching an innocent man walk out of the courtroom to go home is the best win there is.

Thank you to the diligent jury for putting in the work and seeing the truth. Your service is what makes our justice system work.

September 17, 1787 our Constitution was signed, which in my opinion was the greatest event for a country in the history of man. October 31, 1983, I took an oath to protect and defend that very Constitution, even if it meant my death. September, 2003 I took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution as an attorney. At the same time I took a similar oath as a prosecutor. This year as I have for the past 6 years I took a similar oath as a board member of the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Next time you’re looking for a criminal defense lawyer ask yourself, who took an oath and would be willing to die for your rights. I did, I will, and I will not back down. Go Navy!!!
