Attorney Allison Freeman shared how she got involved in doing the work she does at Constable Law with Lawyer Stories.
From the moment I saw my dad arguing in court when I was 5, I wanted to be a lawyer. Every decision made thereafter was so that I could practice law one day. When I graduated from law school in Nebraska, I picked up and moved to Florida. I started working at an insurance defense firm then another then another. After years of representing insurance companies, I wanted to make a change. I reached out to my now law partner who had already made the switch to represent homeowners and business owners against insurance companies. For more than 12 years, we have built up an extensive practice fighting property insurance claims. We truly enjoy representing our clients against some of the largest and most powerful corporations. In addition to our property insurance practice, due to my own personal experience with assisted reproductive technology, I developed a passion for helping others on the journey to build their families. I now represent and advocate for patients during their fertility treatments, including IVF. This work has included the filing of several nationwide class action lawsuits against genetic testing laboratories that sell and advertise an unvalidated test called preimplantation genetic testing for aneuploidy (“PGT-A”) to IVF patients in a false and misleading way. For an industry that lacks regulation and oversight, someone told me that lawyers may be the only ones who can fix any issues and I took that to heart. Making sure this industry does not take advantage of, or harm, vulnerable individuals is why I went to law school and struggled to build my own family. Everything has led me here. This is the work I was meant to do, and I will not give up until we change the industry and hold any bad actors accountable.
