Most estate plans don't suddenly become wrong.
They slowly become out of sync with the life they're supposed to protect.

A child grows up.
A new relationship comes along.
You buy a home.
Your assets change.
Someone you named in your plan is no longer the person you'd choose today.

None of those things necessarily mean your original plan was bad.

It just means life kept moving.
And sometimes your estate plan didn't move with it.

That's why reviewing your plan matters. Not because something is necessarily wrong, but because you want to know that the people, assets, decisions, and wishes in your plan still reflect reality.

Your estate plan should make sense for the life you're living now, not just the life you were living when you signed it.

So ask yourself:
If I opened my estate plan today, would it still accurately reflect my life?
If you're not sure, that's probably worth checking.

You create a plan. Life keeps moving. People get married, divorced, have kids, build businesses, buy homes, change relationships, retire, move, or simply change their minds about what matters most.

Meanwhile, the plan is sitting there exactly as you left it.

That doesn’t necessarily mean you need to start over. Sometimes it just means it’s time to take a look and make sure everything still lines up.

You probably know that a marriage, divorce, birth, or death can mean it’s time to revisit your estate plan.

But some changes are a lot quieter.

The law can change.
And you probably aren’t following California estate planning law for fun in your spare time. 😂

That’s our job.

A plan that made sense when you created it may work differently today because the laws, rules, or best practices have changed.

And you might never know there’s an issue until you actually need the plan.

That’s why an estate plan shouldn’t be something you create once and forget about forever.

It’s worth checking in periodically, especially if it’s been several years since an attorney has reviewed it.
