🚗 Secure pets properly when traveling
🐕 Use leashes in public spaces
☀️ Watch hot pavement and summer heat
👀 Stay alert around roads, sidewalks, and parking lots

OHWV TIP TUESDAY ⚖️🌧️

Summer storms have been making a habit of showing up quickly lately, so here’s one wet-weather driving reminder worth saving:

If your vehicle starts to hydroplane, don’t panic — and don’t slam on the brakes.

Instead:

• Ease off the accelerator
• Keep the steering wheel steady
• Avoid sudden turns or hard braking
• Slow down and give yourself extra following distance
• Skip the cruise control when roads are wet — keep direct control of your speed instead

And if you come across water covering the roadway, don’t try to decide whether it looks shallow enough to cross. Turn around and find another route.

Heavy rain can reduce visibility, hide road hazards and cause standing water to build quickly. Hydroplaning can happen even with relatively little rain on the roadway. (Per the National Weather Service)

A few extra minutes getting there is always better than taking a chance.

✨ Team Spotlight Time! ✨

Today we’re introducing Tracy Hawkins Vance, a valued member of our Accounting & Real Estate team!

While Tracy officially joined OHWV in 2018, her connection to the firm began much earlier. During the early 1990s, she spent her summers here completing real estate title searches—a full-circle journey that eventually brought her back to the firm years later.

One of Tracy’s favorite parts of her work is helping clients through their real estate needs, whether they’re purchasing a new home or transferring property that’s been in the family for generations. She enjoys being part of milestones that help families build their futures while preserving their past.

Outside the office, Tracy enjoys running, reading, skiing, and traveling. This year, her family also had the unique opportunity to host a Spanish exchange student, creating lifelong memories while learning about another culture. And if she’s grabbing lunch around town, you’ll likely find her at The Farm Basket!

We’re grateful for Tracy’s dedication and the care she brings to every client she serves!

Today we’re introducing Michelle Dawson, one of our Legal Assistants!

Michelle has been part of the OHWV family since 2013, returning to the firm in 2022 after a brief time away. Her years of experience and familiar face have made her an invaluable part of our team.

One of Michelle’s favorite parts of her role is building relationships with clients and helping them navigate what can often be difficult seasons of life. As a legal assistant, she serves as an important connection between our clients and attorneys, making sure every client feels heard, informed, and supported along the way.

Outside of the office, Michelle’s greatest joy is spending time with her children, grandchildren, and mother. Whether they’re cheering from the sidelines at a ball field, enjoying time at the pool, attending church together, or planning their next beach vacation or cruise, family is at the center of it all.

We’re grateful for Michelle’s dedication, compassion, and the care she brings to our clients and our team every day. 💙
