Aaron Thompson and Robin Webb answered the call when I contacted them to introduce a bill to protect children in Kentucky. As many of you know I feel strongly about the safety of our children in public schools. This bill 26RS HB 791 introduced by Aaron Thompson and the companion bill introduced in the Senate by Robin Webb is an excellent first step in making sure our children and grandchildren are safe in our public schools in the Commonwealth.

The bill if passed will REQUIRE all public schools to have cameras that record audio and video in every special needs classroom in the Commonwealth and will REQUIRE that those cameras be MONITORED. The Bill if passed also requires the school district to notify parents if their child has been injured in a classroom. It also requires that each parent be given instruction on their right to view videos of their child in the classroom.

I commend Aaron Thompson and Robin Webb for addressing this issue and for working quickly to get these Bills introduced. Thank you for taking a stand for these children and all children in our Commonwealth.

Transparency in local government and in public school systems is very important. Public School Districts are in place to meet the educational needs of students and to keep them safe while they are learning.

As many of you know, a meeting was held by the Greenup Board of Education on January 29, 2026 to hold a vote on paying the former Superintendent, who had resigned, $250,000 as a “pay-out” of her contract. This meeting was held AFTER I filed an Open Meetings Act Violation due to the Board violating the law by not giving the required notice of a special meeting they held on January 2, 2026 where they held an invalid vote on this issue. We were assured that the public would be allowed to comment on January 29 at the meeting and that a new vote would be taken.

On January 29, 2026, I along with many others attended the Board meeting and asked the Board not to take $250,000 of tax payer money out of their general fund to pay a former employee who had resigned. At that meeting, the Interim Superintendent Steve Hall, the three active Board Members, Matt Tussey, Sandy Mosser, Carl Cotton, and the two new Board members (who were not sworn in until after the vote) sat in the session along with Matt Thompson the Director in charge of finances along with the school attorney James Lyon. Much discussion was had and at NO TIME did any of these representatatives of the District advise any one at the meeting that THEY HAD ALREADY PAID HER THE MONEY !! Instead — they pretended that same had not occurred and heard public comment then took a vote on what action should be taken on this issue.

The day after the meeting I filed an Open Records Request and on today’s date received a copy of the check that was issued on January 14, 2026 to the former superintendent. A copy of the check just provided to my office is below with the account numbers not shown.
