A parent’s worst nightmare happens all too often in Texas as the number of unbuckled teen drivers and passengers killed in crashes is rising. TxDOT’s Teen Click It or Ticket campaign is urging all teens to buckle up—every seat, every ride.

God help children in foster care. Something has got to be done to avoid removal of children by CPS (now Texas Department of Family & Protective Services) from families except in the direst of circumstances and to relax the qualifications set by CPS for family placement. Flawed parents are better than dangerous foster care, where children are at the least traumatized from removal from family, friends, pets, toys, and their known home to a home with strangers where they may suffer sexual and physical abuse, forced labor, food and drink restrictions and more. Yes, I understand there may be some good foster homes. However, I have rarely heard of any.

At least 48 Texas children are housed at facilities run by organizations under an investigation launched by two U.S. senators.

Many of you will remember our office manager April Warren Harvey as the ready ear when you needed to tell your story. She fought hard for 3 years to survive triple negative breast cancer, but she is now minutes from the end of life. We are waiting at hospice now for her final breaths. Because many have asked about helping with funeral costs, we have set up The April Ann Warren-Harvey Funeral Expense Living Trust with Bank of America. Any monies remaining in the trust after funeral expenses will be divided equally between her four children. If you feel led to help with those expenses, you can send it by Zelle to [email protected] which will deposit directly to the trust. We currently plan her service to be at Resthaven Rockwall with burial at College Mound Cemetery in Terrell. More information will follow.

TO ALL ATTORNEY’S AND/OR PARENTS:

It is the policy of the 382nd and 439th District Courts in Rockwall County to follow the originally published school calendar regarding access and possession of children during Spring Break for the purposes of interpretation and enforcement of Court Orders. Therefore, the parent with possession of the child this year for Spring Break will need to return the child the other parent in accordance with the dates for Spring Break on the school calendar. That parent will not enjoy additional time with the child due to any extension the school district may take as a precautionary measure in our current health crisis. Until we know about the other counties, I would assume this opinion is true of all district court family judges.

More information will follow concerning court closings. Your hearing or trial set for the next 2-3 weeks will almost certainly be reset.

Talking points:

House Bill 65 infringes on the liberty of adult Texans to make their own decisions regarding divorce.
House Bill 65 would prevent even an AGREED divorce from being completed in less than 180 days if a child is involved and the ground is insupportability.
House Bill 65 could result in the parties and the kids being subjected to temporary orders for longer than may be otherwise necessary.
Kids and adults need stability and finality. House Bill 65 would prevent people from getting on with their personal and professional business as they see fit.
