Congratulations to Eric Butler, JD '22, who was named a shareholder by National business law firm Howard & Howard.

Eric received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Kettering University in 2018. Prior to joining Howard & Howard’s Intellectual Property Intern Program, Eric worked as an engineering co-op at an automotive powertrain supplier and an automotive chassis supplier, gaining exposure to design, testing, and manufacturing settings. He also worked as an IP co-op assisting with tasks such as reviewing invention disclosures, conducting patent/trademark searches, reviewing PTO office actions, and drafting patent claims.

We’re proud to share that Howard & Howard attorneys Noah Menold and Tim Gronewold achieved a complete defense verdict in a complex estate litigation case in Fulton County, Illinois.

After a week-long trial and testimony from 19 witnesses, the jury returned a unanimous verdict in just over an hour - fully in favor of our client.
This result reflects our team’s deep litigation experience and unwavering commitment to protecting our clients’ interests in even the most challenging disputes.

Attorneys Tom O’Neal and Noah Menold of Howard & Howard prevailed in a derivative suit on behalf of a minority member in a limited liability company against entrenched directors operating a swine production facility in McLean County, Illinois. After conclusion of the trial, our client received cash and property exceeding $3.3 million in value.

This case highlights the challenges that can arise from closely held and family-run businesses. Howard & Howard is equipped to handle bet the farm litigation, and any obstacles businesses and business owners may face, working through unconventional and unfair demands, such as those presented in this case.

Despite these hurdles, Tom and Noah navigated the complexities of the dispute to ensure justice was served for our client.

After a woman passed away leaving a will, which named her alma mater—a private university in Illinois—as her sole legatee and beneficiary of her estate, the Testator’s sister filed a lawsuit seeking to invalidate the will, alleging that the Testator was mentally insufficient to make a will due to her diagnosed mental illnesses that were severe and chronic.

Noah Menold of Howard & Howard represented The University, and defended the Testator’s will, denying the Plaintiff’s allegations and asserting that the Testator had the mental capacity to make the will, which excluded the Testator’s entire family (including Plaintiff) and named the University as the sole recipient of her vast estate.

After four days of trial, and 45 minutes of deliberation, the twelve-person jury returned a unanimous verdict in the University’s favor, thereby allowing the University to inherit the entirety of the estate.

Congrats to Noah and the H&H litigation team involved in this matter on another trial success!
