My resolution this year is to help people see that a completed journey is not a failed one. Divorce is not failure and does not mean you made a mistake. If you have learned, or grown, from an experience, if it was right at the time, letting that go and embracing your new self does not mean you have lost.

Life is too short. Not everyone has the same path, and that's ok. I am proud I had a decade long marriage, and am so grateful for my kids. I'm grateful that it ended and I was able to let it go and focus on healing and growth and my new chapter.

I hope the same for anyone I know making a big life change.

A reminder during family holidays that can be hard:

My firm offers free name changes apart from the filing fee for LGBT+ and domestic violence reasons.

Some potential scenarios:

- wanting a new last name to distance oneself from the family that didn't understand or respect you, or was abusive

- needing a new name due to a transition

- needing a new name to hide from an abuser

The name changes can be for physical or emotional safety. Please reach out if you feel this applies to you, and absolutely spread the word.

The Law Office of Elizabeth Schwartz, PLLC has exciting news!

We are expanding! From the solo practice I began January 1, 2014, the firm has grown to boutique size.

I now have a partner! Introducing Matthew Coleman, partner at Elizabeth Schwartz, PLLC.

Matthew Coleman is a licensed mediator, so we now offer civil and family law mediations.

We have hired an amazing woman to be our administrative assistant, Candice Erickson. She has been a hugely valuable addition already.

I am thrilled that the firm family has grown. I am honored and proud of what we have become, and look forward to what we will become going forward.
