As I sat here this morning scrolling my feed of back to school posts and seeing the sad news of the Lake Travis senior just so many emotions. To the moms, dads, grandparents, and everyone feeling a little extra emotional as we head back into the daily grind ❤️
I know so many hearts are a little heavy right now.
Another school year. Another grade. Another reminder that somehow, while we were busy packing lunches, washing uniforms, sitting in carpool lines, running to practices and trying to keep up with the chaos of life… our babies kept growing.
This year, my firstborn is heading into high school. And wow.
I keep catching myself counting the years I have left instead of simply enjoying the one I'm in. I already find myself choking back tears thinking about how quickly it's all going. And I can't imagine what it feels like for so many of my close friends who are at that finish line of the school years, preparing to send their babies off to college.
Years ago, an oldet lady told me something that I have carried with me ever since. Especially in the moments when it feels like the years are flashing by:
"It's hard, but this is what was meant to happen. All of those sleepless nights, all of that hard work… you raised them to do this. Be grateful you are here to see it. Be grateful they are here to experience it. There are people who don't get to be there for these milestones. It's hard, but what a gift."
And goodness, that perspective changes things.
As parents, we have to be their pillars of hope. We have to remind them that they're ready. That they're capable. That they can do the big, scary, wonderful things ahead of them… even while we're secretly trying not to cry in the parking lot.
What feels a little like an ending to us is really just a beginning for them. ❤️
So, love to all of you heading back into the schedules, the chaos, the school sports, the homework, the practices, the early mornings and the late nights.
And extra love to those who would give anything to have that chaos back for just one more day.
And to my friends whose kids have already left the nest… if you're missing those Uber Mom days, I have kids you can drive around anytime! 🤣❤️
