The Academy strongly opposes the DOJ's proposed rule that would exempt federal lawyers from their obligations to respond to Bar ethics and disciplinary investigations unless the federal government found them warranted.
The Rule of Law requires lawyers to operate independently and without the influence of others, upholding the highest standards of ethics, competence, and professional independence.

The International Academy of Trial Lawyers is pleased to announce that James P. Roy was named President during its Annual Meeting, held April 8–12, 2026, in Charleston, South Carolina. Fellows from around the world attended the meeting and welcomed Roy as he assumed his new role. His wife, Ginger Roy, was welcomed as First Lady.

Jim is from Lafayette, Louisiana, and is a graduate of Louisiana State University School of Law. He also earned an LL.M. in Taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. He practices civil trial law with the personal injury firm Domengeaux Wright Roy & Edwards, L.L.C. in Lafayette, Louisiana.
