My practice involves complex military appellate and post-conviction cases. As of late, I am seeing far too many cases where the detailed (assigned) military defense counsel are simply too inexperienced to be handling what in essence are, major felonies. With s*x crimes, it is worse because of the myriad of issues involved in S*x Offender registration laws, which can involve multiple jurisdictions.
The other side of the coin is equally as abhorrent -- civilian lawyers pretending to be military law experts when they have little or in many cases, no military law experience. They may be a good State DWI/OWI attorney, but that does not mean that they have a clue about an Article 120, UCMJ, s*xual assault case.
Don't be one of those people who hire an attorney because they've got 5 or 6 billboards around the gates of your base, post, garrison or whatever.
