"Until my car starts smokin I'm rollin with Roman". 🤣🤣 I love my clients. I should let him do some marketing for me! In all seriousness, this young man was looking at a mandatory lengthy state prison sentence. It was the sort of case that weighed on me. The sort of case that had me walking around on Avenue C trying to find houses with cameras that may have captured his arrest, because it just didn't sit right. Hugging him after the evidence was suppressed was a great feeling.

Representing a client charged with murder is one of the most daunting tasks an attorney can undertake. The emotions run hot, the stakes are the highest. I'm mindful of the fact that under such tragic circumstances no one is really a winner, but I'm grateful the jury agreed with us and acquitted our client of murder.

The New York bail reform law goes live today. Understandably, emotions run hot when discussing this reform. As you parse through the numerous opinions you're sure to see today, please understand that the purpose of bail is not community safety. It is to ensure the accused returns to court. Even under the old scheme, courts were not allowed to use community safety as a factor in setting bail. So, when you see an argument that contains as a premise some form of "this reform makes us less safe," understand that the argument is flawed from the get go.
