Star City Brewers Guild The Star City Brewers Guild is the area’s only homebrewers’ club officially recognized by the AHA - American Homebrewers Association.

The Star City Brewers Guild (“SCBG” or “the Guild”) is the area’s only homebrewers’ club officially recognized by the AHA (American Homebrewers Association). The SCBG serves the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas and includes members from as far away as Lynchburg, Martinsville, and Blacksburg, Virginia. At the end of 2014, the Guild consisted of 80 paid members, including single memberships and

couples. The SCBG meets monthly, but is much more than monthly meetings. The Guild as a group, and as individual members, has a recognizable presence in the Roanoke Valley as knowledgeable advocates for quality brewing and good beer, both homebrewed and craft-brewed.

Let's gather at Twisted Track Brewpub this Friday 10/22-5PM to celebrate the release of Matt Klumpp's Low-Alcohol beer named "Ginger Juice". This beer was the winner of the guild's NA/LA beer competition using Fermentis LA-01 yeast. LA-01 yeast only assimilates simple sugars thus capping alcohol production. A 1 bbl batch was recently brewed by Matt on the Twisted Track pilot system.

Today we had several members help out picking food boxes for Feeding Southwest Virginia! Thanks to all who showed up to help out.

This afternoon we packed 261 boxes for those who need it and helped clean up the warehouse afterward. We hope to make this a regular volunteer opportunity!

We had our June meeting yesterday at James and Joan's house. James made some amazing Jambalaya with some Andouille Sausage from Louisiana. There were a few desserts that had folks talking as well! Thanks so much to James and Joan for hosting the meeting!

There were 18 people present and we're appreciative of all who showed up.

We hope to see more faces at upcoming meetings!

We thank you all for bearing with us during this pandemic. We are so saddened that we couldn’t hold what certainly would have been the best Throwdown to date.

THROWDOWN POSTPONED

We regret to inform everyone that as of just a few minutes ago, we have decided to POSTPONE Throwdown. We took a lot of care in planning around COVID-19 and taking every precaution possible to still get the judging done, but now with even more restrictions and limits on gatherings of 10 people, we've decided it's in everyone's best interest to postpone. We will update here on social media and through our email list as soon as we have a new plan.

In the meantime, please support Southern Hills Homebrew Supply and your local breweries. They need your support now more than ever.

CLARIFICATION: Throwdown Judging sessions will proceed at Southern Hills Homebrew Supply (Friday, March 20th, 5:30 pm, and Saturday, March 21st at 9 am and 1 pm).

The Awards Ceremony originally scheduled to be held at Big Lick Brewing Company has been postponed. Sorry for any confusion.
