Marine Navigation Rules are much like the rules of the road. They establish a consistent way to navigate safely and avoid collisions when two boats are crossing paths, are on course to meet head-on, or when one boat wishes to overtake another.

Remember to avoid a collision at all times, do not travel too fast for existing conditions, and always wear a well-fitted Coast Guard-approved life jacket.

The U.S. Coast Guard treats every distress call and report of an unmanned paddle craft as if a real life is at stake.

Take responsibility for your paddle craft by labeling with an “If Found” sticker. This label allows first responders to confirm if someone is in trouble and collect vital information to help search and rescue efforts.

Reports of unmanned and adrift paddle craft divert federal, state and local resources on hundreds of dangerous and costly searches that turn out to be false alarms.

I was able to join the Propeller Club - Port of Tampa yesterday morning for a boat tour of the Port Tampa Bay. It was a great experience and I learned a lot about the commerce and prosperity the port brings to the region. If you ever have a chance to take a similar tour, I 100% recommend doing so.
