Our firm mourns the loss of, and also celebrates the life of, Justice Ed Pittman, who spent decades in public service to the State of Mississippi. We are fortunate to have him with us for the past 20 years. In his honor, the Mississippi Supreme Court released this tribute (see link and below excerpt).

Law partner Jerry Mills said, "Judge Pittman was a lawyer of vast experience. But more importantly, he was a friend and a trusted col-league." Pittman joined the Ridgeland firm of Pyle, Mills, Dye & Pittman, now known as Mills, Scanlon, Dye & Pittman, shortly after he retired from the Supreme Court. Pittman was of counsel. Attorney John Scanlon said, "We were very fortunate to have the benefit of Justice Pittman's vast experience in all three branches of government, and he always provided helpful insight when we were analyzing cases and legal issues."

We enjoyed being in Biloxi this week for the 93rd Annual Summer Conference of the Mississippi Municipal League (MML). We visited with many of our current and former clients and colleagues, and other city officials from all over Mississippi. We are very proud of our current clients the City of Ridgeland for their Public Works Excellence Award, the City of Byram for their Public Safety Excellence Award for the BPD’s Blue Dawg Program and City of Gluckstadt’s City Clerk Lindsay Leonard Kellum for receiving her certification as a certified municipal clerk!

Our firm mourns the passing of James “Jeep” Peden, a respected attorney accomplished in the field of land use and zoning law. We have had the pleasure of practicing both opposite and together with Jeep over the years, and our attorneys were proud to call Jeep both a colleague and a friend. Jeep practiced law for more than 50 years, and his passing leaves a void in our profession.

Celebrate the life of James Peden, leave a kind word or memory and get funeral service information care of Parkway Funeral Home & Parkway Memorial Cemetery.

Happy to report we prevailed on behalf of the City Council today. This ruling will benefit every municipality in the state of Mississippi.

A special judge ruled in favor of the Jackson City Council, saying Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba did not have the authority to veto a negative vote regarding the city's garbage contract.

Hotty Toddy and SMTTT! Our firm has a friendly competition going on this weekend among us as our two favorite baseball teams face one another for the chance to represent Mississippi in the College World Series in Omaha. Today, we wore our team shirts and enjoyed a table in the break room with color coordinated snacks and decorations, including a Rebels vase from our late partner James Gabriel. Like most of Mississippi, we will be watching the games with interest to see who prevails. Will it be John and Zac’s team? Or Missy and Jerry’s? In either case, it will be fun and will be great for our home state.

We got our week started by celebrating the one-year anniversary of the incorporation of the City of Gluckstadt this morning. Our firm began working with local residents more than 20 years ago to accomplish the incorporation, and the effort culminated in two different, multi-week trials a year apart in 2018 and 2019. Following the Supreme Court’s decision in favor of Gluckstadt, we now have the privilege of serving as the collective City Attorney. We are honored to continue working with the community’s leaders to build Gluckstadt into a full-service City.
