COVID-19 procedures from the State Corporation Commission: All business with the Commission should be through electronic filing systems, email, or by telephone. For public health safety, in-person visits to SCC offices are suspended. Filings or other deliveries are permitted by drop off at main entrance. On-site staff is minimal and processing of such deliveries may be delayed.

The SCC will hold the first of 4 local public hearings today in Courtland to receive public testimony on the best way to implement a new area code in the existing 757 area code. That area code, which encompasses Tidewater & Northern Neck, will be exhausted by late 2021 without relief. The recommended alternative is an overlay.

Today’s hearing will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Southampton County Administration Bldg. in Courtland. Additional 757 area code relief public hearings are scheduled at 2 pm & 7 pm as follows: Aug. 20 - Williamsburg; Aug. 21 – Chesapeake & Aug. 22 – Accomac.
