🚨 Public Service Announcement – Scams Are Hitting Close to Home 🚨

I want to take a minute to put something out there that everyone needs to hear right now.

This week alone, I’ve seen multiple people in our community get targeted by scammers. One situation involved someone being told they had a federal warrant for missing jury duty. Another involved a person being convinced to send $4,000 to “bond their spouse out of jail.”

Let me be very clear:

* Federal warrants are typically NOT executed by local or state law enforcement in that manner. That’s not how the system works.
* You will NEVER be asked to send money in Bitcoin, gift cards, or any unconventional form of payment to resolve a legal issue.
* Courts do not call you demanding immediate payment to avoid arrest.
* Missing jury duty does not result in some surprise warrant with a payoff amount. At most, you’d receive a summons to appear and explain, not a financial shakedown.

These scammers rely on fear, urgency, and confusion. They want you to panic and act before you think.

Don’t.

If you ever receive a call like this:
➡️ Hang up
➡️ Do NOT send money
➡️ Do NOT give personal information
➡️ Verify everything independently

And most importantly—call someone you trust.

If you’re unsure whether something is legitimate, call my office. 281-238-8500 Seriously. It takes me a couple of minutes to help you sort it out, and I would much rather do that than see someone lose their hard-earned money.

You are not bothering me. That’s what I’m here for.

7:30 a.m. — phone rings. Guy tells me his wife was arrested for family violence and is in the Fort Bend County Jail.

9:00 a.m. — sitting across from him, in my office, getting the real story. He thinks my dog is better than my wife’s also…..

11:00 a.m. — I’m at the jail, looking my client in the eye, telling her to sit tight.

12:00 p.m. — hearing at magistration… and my client walks out with no probable cause.

Some mornings you drink coffee.
Some mornings you remind the system it still has to follow the law.

Great job by the Judge in this case! Remember, it matters who’s standing next to you when you step into court.

Two months in and this is why results matter.

Client came to me facing:
• A misdemeanor charge
• A felony probation revocation
• And a $1,000,000 bond that made no sense on any planet

Within days of being hired, we got that bond reduced to something reasonable and got him back where he belongs.

Now, 60 days later:
Every single charge dismissed.
Probation revocation? Gone.
Protective order? Withdrawn.

Funny how things change when the case actually gets the attention, and pushback, it deserves.

I appreciate Colorado County, the prosecutors, and the courts for ultimately getting this one right.

As for that misdemeanor original million-dollar bond…
Let’s just say some decisions don’t age well when the spotlight gets a little brighter.

If you or someone you know is facing serious charges, don’t wait. The difference between sitting in a cell and walking free often comes down to who’s standing next to you.
