But it has to meet a specific bar. It must be truly new, not something that could have been found earlier, and it has to be strong enough that it likely would have changed the outcome.

If real evidence has come to light since the trial, it deserves a serious look.

But there are rules about how post-release control has to be imposed in the first place. If the trial court didn't do it correctly, the sanction may not hold up.

If your direct appeal was denied and you believe your appellate attorney missed a strong argument, there's a specific rule for that.

Ohio App. R. 26(B) lets you apply to reopen the appeal based on ineffective assistance of appellate counsel.

It's narrow. The deadlines are strict. But it's real, and it has given people a second look at convictions that should never have stood.

If your appeal was denied, don't assume it's over.

Sometimes the conviction is sound but the sentence isn't.

Ohio law has specific rules for how sentences must be imposed. When a court gets those rules wrong, the sentence can be challenged even if everything else about the case stands.

Improperly stacked terms. Missed findings. Penalties outside the legal range. These are fixable.

People facing an appeal sometimes try to handle it themselves to save money. It rarely ends well.

An appeal isn't about retelling your story. It's about finding the specific legal errors buried in a trial record and arguing them under the right standard of review.

Miss the standard, miss the deadline, or raise the wrong issue, and the court won't fix it for you.
