What is funding?
Transferring ownership of your assets from your name into the trust's name.
Commonly forgotten to fund:
Real estate (needs a new deed)
Bank and investment accounts
Business interests
The consequence of skipping this step:
An unfunded trust doesn't avoid probate—assets still in your name go through the exact process you were trying to avoid.
A trust without funding is like a safe with nothing inside it.
