Update on Work Permit
USCIS Updates EAD Validity Periods
USCIS has updated its Policy Manual to shorten Employment Authorization Document (EAD) validity periods for several categories. The goal is to increase the frequency of security vetting and ensure proper screening.
For refugees, asylees, individuals granted withholding of removal, and applicants with pending asylum, adjustment of status, or cancellation/suspension cases, EAD validity will be reduced from 5 years to 18 months for applications pending or filed on/after Dec. 5, 2025.
Under the new requirements in H.R. 1, initial and renewal EADs for TPS recipients, parolees (including refugee parole), individuals with pending TPS applications, and spouses of entrepreneur parolees will be valid for up to 1 year or the length of their authorized parole/TPS period, whichever is shorter.
USCIS states that these changes support more frequent vetting and help detect fraud or security concerns.
