Often when opening a credit account, the primary cardholder designates their spouse as an additional authorized user, but the primary holder remains solely liable for the card debt. However, upon the death of the primary cardholder, any authorized user rights are canceled. A simple solution for avoiding cancellation of one’s card charging privileges in these situations would be for married couples to hold a joint credit-card. The joint card account gives both spouses charging privileges and makes the couple equally responsible for any credit card debt.
