Well, everybody gets a turn with bad luck and fortunately mine took many years to show Its ugly face.
Apparently, I was “blessed” with a degenerative spine that became asymptomatic in September 2020. I had back surgery to fuse my L-5/S-1 level on January 19th and further damaged it after a minor fall at home. I have healed well despite the fall and I came back home in April after 3 months in hospitals regaining my strength and staying clear of Covid.
That being said, I’m proud to say that my 41 years of practicing law was a great fulfillment that included being a Shasta County Deputy District Attorney, a Shasta County Judge Pro Tempore and criminal defense attorney in both State and Federal Courts.
I have had the pleasure of dealing with innumerable characters, scofflaws, bullsh*tters, as well as many erudite judges and attorneys whose creativity, humor and knowledge has known no bounds. (Thank you Frank O’Connor, Steve Carlton, Joe Gazzigli, Dave Brady, Judge Bill Davis, and my good friend David Dratman).
I have met, worked with and admired hundreds of individuals involved in national and international legal issues that have opened my mind to the needs of the world.
There has been nothing better than loving what I do, but moreso, helping others in the process. It never gets old seeing a client’s fear melt away and the gratefulness that accompanies it with a job well done. I believe that I have made a difference in the world, as we all should, and I have never regretted being kind under any circumstances.
My wonderful wife Elaine continues to make life as sweet as it is and has sacrificed so much taking care of me during this medically difficult time. We are looking forward to one of many future trips including the South Pacific and spending more time at our place in Costa Rica.
My absence shouldn’t be seen as dropping out, disappearing or “quitting”. I would hate to see any of my experience go to waste and welcome anyone to help keep the cobwebs off of my library or my mind. I’m so happy to start this new transition in life both together and apart from all of you.
I am forever receiving requests for referrals to other attorneys and am more than happy to do so. If you are interested in me referring you, please provide me with a list of your areas of practice and contact information to forward to prospective clients.
Again, thank you for helping make my life what it has happily been for such a long, successful and productive time.
