Collins & Jones is pleased to announce its newest shareholder, Kerry Morgan, effective January 1, 2025.

Kerry has been with Collins & Jones since 2014 when she started as a law clerk. Following graduation from UMKC Law School in 2015, Kerry became an associate attorney at the Firm and has since built one of the premier estate planning practices in the Cass County area. In 2024, Kerry graduated from Villanova University with a Master of Laws in Taxation (LL.M) and an Estate Planning Certificate. This degree and the knowledge Kerry obtained while pursuing it enables the Firm to provide even more sophisticated counsel to its high-net worth and business clients, particularly in the area of estate planning. Kerry has been an integral member of our team, bringing invaluable expertise and commitment to our clients. An LL.M is a graduate degree in which lawyers study a specialized area of law to obtain advanced expertise and knowledge in the field. This degree and the knowledge Kerry obtained while pursuing it enables the Firm to provide even more sophisticated counsel to its high-net worth and business clients, particularly in the area of estate planning. During his time in law school, Samuel served as a board observer for the First Tee of Central Ohio and the Vice President of the Sports & Entertainment Law Association, while also working closely with a professor as a research assistant. Before attending law school, Samuel earned a bachelor’s degree in political science from Michigan State University. In his free time, Samuel enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, Katie.

On May 25, 2022 the Missouri Public Service Commission approved a unanimous stipulation and agreement which settled a dispute between natural gas companies. In February of 2021 Winter Storm Uri caused massive supply disruption throughout the Midwest. In some cases, local distribution companies (LDCs) had to “cover” the gas for customers that normally procured their gas supply from unregulated natural gas marketing companies. In such times of natural disaster, which threaten the integrity of natural gas pipelines, the utility can demand customers reduce their consumption of natural gas or face astronomical penalties. Winter Storm Uri spurred federal and state regulatory litigation with claims against the marketers in excess of $200 million. Collins & Jones attorney Joshua Harden successfully represented one of the largest natural gas marketing companies in the United States before two state public utility commissions and a federal lawsuit brought by the LDC against the natural gas marketers. The universal settlement resolved all matter arising between the marketing companies and the LDC involving Winter Storm Uri costs.

Originally from Harrisonville, Missouri, Samantha is a 2021 graduate of the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. During her time in law school, Samantha served as a member of the UMKC Law Review and actively participated in the UMKC Law Family & Child Services Clinic, while also working as a law clerk focusing on federal appellate matters. Before attending law school, Samantha earned a bachelor’s degree in criminology from Missouri State University. In her free time, Samantha enjoys gardening and spending time with her many pets at her home in Urich, Missouri.
