Good information!

It is a long post for us but please take the time to read the important safety info for anyone who gets in a car.
Do you have a teen driver? Are they wearing their seatbelt correctly every time they drive?
Last year, 44 teen drivers died in Ohio crashes. Of those that died, 35 of them did not have their seatbelts on or were not wearing them correctly.
Newer cars are equipped with obvious safety features including seatbelts, airbags, antilock brakes, tire pressure warnings and more. Without getting too technical, they also have a subtle safety feature we don't think about. Modern vehicles are designed to crush or crumple during an impact. That controlled crush zone redirects and absorbs energy, slowing the vehicle down and reducing force before it reaches the driver's compartment. That crumple is one of the best protections for the driver and passengers but it works best when everyone is belted in.
Older cars were built like tanks and would have minimal damage in a crash but the occupants got knocked around like they were in a prize fight. Now, with the introduction of crumple zones, that minor fender bender is going to cost you $1000s but you are much more likely to walk away with little to no injury.
In a high energy crash, think high speed, unrestrained passengers can cause significant injury to other occupants. Ever been accidentally headbutt? Now imagine taking that impact with the force of a car crash behind it.
Cars, SUVs and trucks are important daily tools but they can be terribly destructive. Keep everyone buckled in correctly and you just may save a life.

PMHA is partnering with Akron Children's for the Home Alone Safety Program. This is a great opportunity for kids 8-12 years old to learn the skills needed to safely stay home alone. The event will take place in the community room at Heritage Knolls on September 2nd from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
