A fascinating piece of Raleigh, Mississippi history:

This 1946 letter from a man in Kansas recalls his memories of Raleigh in the late 1800s and describes it as “one of the drunkenest, fightingest crowds” he had ever seen. Whether exaggerated frontier storytelling or a glimpse into the rough-and-tumble days of early Mississippi life, it’s incredible to read firsthand accounts that connect us to the people and personalities of our town’s past nearly 130 years ago. History truly comes alive through old letters like this.

Today, we reflect on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and the values he stood for, like justice, equality, and integrity. His life reminds us that doing what is right requires courage and action, not just words.
