Elizabeth Overmann was sworn in this week as Allied Chair of the North Carolina Trucking Association (NCTA) at the Annual Management Conference. Elizabeth has been a devoted member of the NCTA since 2013, currently serving on the Board of Directors and in other leadership positions including the Women in Trucking Council Advisory Board. Since 1929, the North Carolina Trucking Association is the largest statewide trucking organization dedicated to promoting advocacy, safety, compliance, and leadership, serving as the voice of the industry. Paralegal Sarah White has been appointed Vice-Chair to the North Carolina Bar Association Paralegal Division. As an officer of the Executive Council, she will assist with communications, planning and ex*****on of the Division’s mission of promoting and advancing the profession. She also serves as Co-Chair of its Bylaws and Long-Range Planning Committees and previously held other leadership positions as a member of the Council since 2019.

North Carolina Bar Association President Kimberly Stogner has appointed Amie C. Sivon as Chair of the Appellate Practice Section for 2024-25. Last year, Amie was the Vice-Chair of the Section. As Chair, Amie will lead the Appellate Practice Section, chair the Appellate Council, name members to committee appointments, and oversee the activities of the section including the annual CLE, special programs, and social events.

A partner of the firm, Amie is a seasoned civil litigator with extensive trial and appellate experience. Many of the appeals Amie has been involved in have resulted in positive outcomes in both published and unpublished opinions. Amie was recently recognized as a Board Certified Specialist in Appellate Practice by the North Carolina State Bar. Elizabeth Overmann participated in the North Carolina Trucking Association (NCTA)’s “Call on Raleigh” event on June 5th. Members of the Women in Trucking committee were given the opportunity to meet directly with Representatives Donnie Loftis and Laura Budd and others to voice first-hand issues and concerns about legislation and regulations affecting the trucking industry as well as get updates on current efforts to support the industry. Since 1929, NCTA promotes the rights for carriers while providing education, safety training and leadership. Elizabeth has been a devoted member of the NCTA since 2017 and serves on the Association’s Board of Directors and in leadership positions on numerous committees. A strong advocate for the industry, Elizabeth is an experienced defense litigator whose practice for the past twenty years has focused on transportation with an emphasis on trucking, personal injury, and catastrophic injuries.

Amie Sivon was admitted to the United States Supreme Court on May 23rd along with a group of 16 fellow members of the North Carolina Bar Association. The trip was organized by the Appellate Council of the NCBA of which Amie is the current vice-chair and incoming chair. Upon a motion, the lawyers were admitted by Chief Justice Roberts.

Elizabeth Overmann and John Nunnally attended a legislative reception held by the North Carolina Trucking Association (NCTA) on May 7 at the NC Museum of Natural Sciences in Raleigh. Members connected with members of the NC General Assembly to talk about current issues important to and impacting motor carriers and drivers. NCTA actively lobbies the NC General Assembly and provides a strong voice to protect and advocate on behalf of the trucking industry by working with state and federal regulatory and enforcement agencies. The association is also dedicated to providing the industry with excellence in education and training.

Elizabeth serves on NCTA’s Board of Directors, Legislative Committee, Women in Trucking Council and Advisory Board, and Allied Committee. John and Elizabeth are seasoned lawyers in our Trucking and Transportation practice who represent large and small motor carriers and trucking companies often on behalf of national insurance companies or directly for the trucking company in claims in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Florida, and Georgia. Paralegal Sarah White was elected to the National Association of Legal Assistants (NALA) Certifying Board for a three-year term beginning July 1, 2024. The Board is responsible for the content, standards and administration of the Certified Paralegal (CP) Program and oversees the development and maintenance of the CP Examination as well as other duties. NALA has awarded the CP credential to more than 20,000 paralegals since its inception in 1975. In addition to certification, NALA provides exceptional continuing education and professional development designed specifically to advance paralegals and other legal professionals in their careers.

Sarah is a senior litigation paralegal who holds ACP and NCCP certifications. She was previously Chair of the NC State Bar Paralegal Certification Committee and currently serves as Secretary of the NC Bar Association Paralegal Division, as well as Co-chair of its Bylaws and Long-Range Planning Committees. In 2018, she was recipient of the NCBA’s Distinguished Paralegal Award. Bill Po***ck attended the 83rd Annual Conference of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys (ADTA) held in Sante Fe April 24-28 where the conference was filled with presentations and CLEs conducted by legal industry leaders of national prominence and reputation. Bill Po***ck has accepted an invitation as a fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America (LCA). Our co-founder, George Ragsdale was the first lawyer at Ragsdale Liggett to be invited into its membership. The exclusive organization is a trial lawyer honorary society composed of less than one-half of one percent of American lawyers.
