We have the great pleasure of announcing that Nichols, Choi & Lee, PLLC (“NCL”) has merged with Hedrick Gardner Kincheloe & Garofalo LLP (“Hedrick Gardner”), effective October 1, 2022.

Since NCL opened its doors in 2016, we have been fortunate for the opportunity to serve you and many other members of community with administrative, employment, and nonprofit legal representation. Our significant growth over the past six years is owed, in large part, to the referrals of clients and colleagues who share our passion for detailed and comprehensive advocacy. As we have grown, so have our needs to ensure that our clients will continue to be well-served in the many years to come.

To that end, we are delighted to be merging with Hedrick Gardner, which shares our values of excellent service and deep expertise. Hedrick Gardner has been a dynamic and deeply respected legal presence in the Carolinas for over 60 years, with tremendous talent and expertise. We believe that both firms will be enhanced by the combination of practice areas and skill sets, to the benefit of our clients.

Anna Baird Choi, Jack Nichols, and Catherine Lee are honored to be selected for the 2021 edition of Super Lawyers. Anna and Jack were chosen as 2021 North Carolina Super Lawyers in Administrative Law. Catherine was chosen as a North Carolina “Rising Star” in Employment & Labor Law, which is a designation for top up-and-coming lawyers who are 40 years old or younger, or who have been practicing for 10 years or less.

Please join us in welcoming attorney Grant Simpkins to Nichols, Choi & Lee! Grant joins us following his recent graduation from Campbell Law School and completion of his service as a Campbell Law School Wallace Leadership Fellow.

While in law school, Grant was a member of the Moot Court Team, representing Campbell Law School at the National Moot Court Competition and the Duberstein Bankruptcy Moot Court Competition, among others. Prior to law school, Grant graduated from Appalachian State University with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science and a minor in General Business in 2016. He also served as the President of the Men’s Club Lacrosse Team. Grant’s legal practice primarily focuses on administrative law with an emphasis on occupational/professional licensing.

Nichols, Choi & Lee is excited to welcome attorney Thomas E. Kelly to its administrative and litigation practice. Prior to joining Nichols, Choi & Lee, Tom practiced healthcare law, administrative law, and civil litigation with Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP (2014-2020) and previously served as Assistant Attorney General in the North Carolina Department of Justice (2011-2014).

Tom received his law degree from Wake Forest University School of Law in 2011, where he served as Managing Editor of the Wake Forest University Journal of Business and Intellectual Property Law. Prior to law school, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Wake Forest University. An active member of the North Carolina Bar Association (NCBA), Tom was selected for participation in the NCBA’s Leadership Academy in 2016.

NCL attorney Christina Cress enjoyed a day of networking and continuing legal education at NC Sustainable Energy Association’s Clean Energy conference yesterday. Highlights for Christina included: her friend and colleague, Thad Culley with Vote Solar, presenting on performance-based ratemaking as regulatory reform; her UNC School of Law c/o 2013 classmate, Will Scott with Duke Law School and NC Conservation Network, presenting on SB 559 and NC Dept of Environmental Quality’s Clean Energy Plan; and last but not least, a worthwhile and informative panel featuring NCUC Chair Mitchell, Commissioner Clodfelter, and Commissioner Duffley!

NCL Law is pleased to announce that Jack Nichols has been selected for inclusion among the 2020 North Carolina Super Lawyers®. Jack previously was recognized by Super Lawyers in 2006, and has continued to be recognized each year since 2009.

In addition, Catherine Lee and Christina Cress have been selected by Super Lawyers® as 2020 North Carolina “Rising Stars.” Catherine has been recognized as a “Rising Star” since 2012.
