Thank you to Mission Kids for this important PSA.
Back-to-school photos are a fun way to document an important milestone for your child. As back-to-school photos begin to fill timelines everywhere, please be mindful not to overshare your child’s personal information.
🧐 You may think, what’s the big deal? GROOMING is the big deal. If an adult is looking to groom a child and gain their trust or have common ground, they might try to relate to a child about their favorite book, favorite food, sports, hobbies, or what they want to be when they grow up. An adult could also use this information like their age, grade, teacher's name, etc. to create fake profiles online to "befriend" and possibly solicit a child via social media or gaming apps.
Simply put, information shared on these signs can be used by predators and scammers who may be looking to endanger your child or family. No matter your account’s privacy settings, it’s best to err on the side of caution and keep information to a bare minimum.
DON’T SHARE:
