Smith is a trial attorney with 30 years experience trying a wide variety of civil jury and jury waived cases in Massachusetts Superior, District, and Federal Courts. Attorney Smith also has substantial experience handling complex Appeals before the Massachusetts Appeals Court and Supreme Judicial Court. Attorney Smith attended Boston College where he earned his B.A. Magna Cum Laude in 1982 and Bos
ton College Law School where he earned his J.D. Cum Laude in 1985. He was admitted to the Mass. Attorney Smith began his legal career at the highly respected firm of Lecomte, Emanuelson, & Doyle in Boston as an associate in 1985. He became a partner of the firm in 1996. At the firm, Attorney Smith engaged in a Civil Trial Practice concentrating in insurance litigation of all types including both simple and complex property, auto, commercial and general liability defense; asbestos personal injury defense, products liability, construction related litigation, SIU Fraud Defense, first party and third party coverage analysis and coverage litigation, and subrogation. The firm’s clients included a number of both major carriers and smaller mutual insurance companies. In January of 2002, Attorney Smith joined the insurance litigation firm of Haverty & Feeney, in Plymouth, MA as Of Counsel, where he continued a similar Civil Trial Practice representing his own insurance company clients. In late 2013 Attorney Smith opened his firm, William P. Smith, Esq. in Sagamore Beach, MA, where he resides, and continued his Civil Trial Practice. in addition to continuing a long tradition of Civil Trial Practice excellence has expanded into other general practice areas including OUI and other District Court Criminal Defense, representing Contractors and Sub-Contractors in litigation and general business matters, landlord/tenant issues, and small business contract negotiations and/or litigation, drafting of simple wills and trusts.
