IR-2021-111, May 14, 2021 — The Internal Revenue Service will begin issuing refunds this week to eligible taxpayers who paid taxes on 2020 unemployment compensation that the recently-enacted American Rescue Plan later excluded from taxable income.

The IRS plans to start issuing tax refunds on 2020 unemployment benefits this month. But some groups will get the money sooner than others.

If you’ve already filed a 2020 return with unemployment income:
According to the IRS, they’ll be issuing a refund in the appropriate amount to those who’ve already filed and qualify for the unemployment exclusion. There is no need to file an amended return.

IRS states they will be sending you any money that is due to you if I filed you before law was passed. YAY! just sit back & wait for the $$$$ :)

The Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service announced today that the federal income tax filing due date for individuals for the 2020 tax year will be automatically extended from April 15, 2021, to May 17, 2021. The IRS will be providing formal guidance in the coming days.

We knew this didn't we??? :)

Also tomorrow the "UC Worksheet" will be available for those that held off filing with UC. Those that already filed with UC, hang in there. ⏰💲

So I have held off filing anyone with unemployment since last Thursday when the new law was signed in. Tonight I am resuming regular taxes if you have unemployment I am holding off as the IRS has not made a decision on what they are doing. Just trying to keep everyone in the loop and if you do want yours filed with UC benefits just know that it will be needing redone so that's why I was trying to save time and money for both myself and client.

So this is the latest and greatest as of 10 hours ago just trying to keep you guys in the loop and the part where it says ask your preparer! remember we know nothing until the IRS puts the regulations into play!!!!
