As we all are aware, given current circumstances and the federal government shutdown, over 40,000 Puebloans who rely on SNAP benefits will have their benefits cut off this coming Monday. Many in our community who are dependent on this assistance are currently facing the troublesome decision when this occurs of whether to pay their electricity bill, fill their car with gas, or feed their families and how they will manage during this time
What often may go unnoticed is that many who benefit from this financial support for food include young children at home and students in our classrooms. Our kids need to be hungry for knowledge when they go to school, not hungry for food. This problem not only affects children, of course, but it also affects approximately 40% of all Puebloans, not to mention the negative rippling effects to local business as well as others who may deal directly with Puebloans who will not be receiving their benefits.
The Law Office of Orona Garcia & Galves, PC invites our fellow law firms and attorneys (Pueblo Bar Association members), Business Tenants in the Thatcher Building where we are located, as well as anyone else in Pueblo who desires to help, to join us in a Food Drive to help where it is needed most.
