On this day, 31 May 1927, Fred Trump, the father of US president Donald Trump, was arrested at a rally of the Ku Klux Klan in Queens, New York.
He was initially arrested for "refusing to disperse" along with six other people after the rally descended into disorder. The Long Island Daily Press reported that all seven arrestees were wearing Klan robes.
After Donald Trump was endorsed by David Duke, the former grand wizard of the Ku Klux Klan, Trump was questioned about his father's arrest. Donald claimed to journalist Jason Horowitz that "it never happened", despite it being reported in several newspapers.
When Horowitz asked Trump if the address reported for his father in the newspapers, 175-24 Devonshire Rd, was accurate, Donald dismissed it as "totally false". However, Fred Trump's wedding announcement in the Daily Press listed his address at 175-24 Devonshire Rd.
Fred Trump was subjected to legal action by the Justice Department on multiple occasions for racist behaviour as a landlord, and one of his former tenants, folk singer Woody Guthrie once wrote in a song mentioning Trump: "I suppose / Old Man Trump knows / Just how much / Racial Hate / He stirred up".

For the first time, both Russia and Israel have been blacklisted in an annual United Nations report of sexual violence against prisoners of war and civilians detained during conflict.

The 35-page report blacklists 77 government and non-government parties in a dozen countries suspected of committing or being responsible for sexual violence in conflicts around the world. It says the number of cases rose sharply in 2025 from 2024.

Both Israel and Russia were warned in last year’s report by U.N. Secretary-General Antonio Guterres that they could be put on the list.

ALERT: 35 former federal judges, including renowned retired conservative Judge Luttig, just filed a motion in federal court in Florida asking the judge to REOPEN Donald Trump’s $10 billion lawsuit against the IRS, arguing the court “was deceived” by the parties involved.

The explosive filing claims the rushed dismissal of the case was used to justify a secretive “settlement” that would direct $1.776 billion from the U.S. Treasury into a so-called “Anti-Weaponization Fund” controlled by Trump allies.

The judges argue the lawsuit itself may have been “collusive” and accuse the parties of committing a potential “fraud on the court” by concealing the settlement details while the judge was still examining whether there was even a legitimate case or controversy in the first place.

The filing states: “This court was deceived.”

The former judges are asking the court to void the dismissal, reopen the case, and investigate whether the judicial system was manipulated to funnel taxpayer money and shield Trump and affiliated entities from future federal claims.
