Nonprofits are often built by people who care deeply about their mission. But passion alone does not protect an organization from legal risk.

Board governance, employment questions, contracts, compliance obligations, funding requirements, and internal policies can all create issues that affect an organization's ability to do its work. Too often, nonprofits wait until something has gone wrong before reaching out to counsel.

We believe legal support can and should be more proactive than that.

We also believe access to counsel should feel more accessible for nonprofits, not reserved only for emergencies or moments of crisis. That is why we are developing support options designed to help nonprofit organizations get practical legal guidance before small issues become bigger problems.

Whether through a legal health check, monthly support options, governance review, policy support, or guidance during a difficult moment, our goal is to help nonprofits feel more prepared, protected, and supported as they carry out their mission.

We were honored to attend the YMCA of Greater Providence’s annual Y Heroes event, celebrating the individuals and organizations whose leadership, generosity, and service help strengthen our community.

The event supported critical YMCA programs, including LIVESTRONG for cancer survivors, before and after-school care, adaptive programming for seniors, swim lessons, scholarships, financial aid, and more.

We are grateful to support organizations like the Y that help ensure every individual, child, and family — regardless of income or background — has the opportunity to lead a healthy, confident, and connected life.

Congratulations to this year’s Y Heroes, and thank you to the Greater Providence YMCA for the meaningful work you do every day.

Today, we are proud to launch GP Law and Consulting, LLC, a legal practice serving businesses, nonprofits, educational organizations, and law firms across Rhode Island and Massachusetts.

As lifelong Rhode Islanders, Latinas, daughters of immigrants, and first-generation college graduates, this moment carries deep meaning for us and our families. It reflects not only our professional journeys, but the communities and experiences that shaped us.

After years of practicing across multiple sectors at Rhode Island firms, we are now building something of our own—grounded in integrity, partnership, and excellence.

We believe legal services should be both exceptional and accessible. Our approach is rooted in being responsive and practical in how we support the organizations and individuals we serve.

We are excited—and honored—to begin this work.

This milestone would not have been possible without the support of so many. First, our families, whose unwavering belief made this moment possible.

Thank you to Emily McHugh for capturing this milestone, and to The Alcove for providing a space where this vision could take shape.

We are also deeply grateful to the friends, colleagues, and mentors who encouraged us, offered guidance, and supported us along the way.
