Under Rhode Island's Good Samaritan Overdose Prevention Act, if you’re with someone who is overdosing and you call 911 for help, you cannot be prosecuted for drug possession, as long as the evidence was discovered only because you sought medical assistance.

This law is designed to save lives by removing the fear of arrest from those trying to help in an emergency.

⚠️ Note: This law does not apply to drug trafficking or manufacturing charges.
