When we say we are celebrating our 25th anniversary we aren’t just celebrating the milestone, we are celebrating all the children we have served, all our team past and present, all our sponsors past and present, all our community partnerships, our founder, our legal services, and our programming!

We have a lot to celebrate💙🩵

One such program is Teen Court. Teen Court is a juvenile justice diversion program in which offenders between the ages of 13 and 17 are judged by a jury of their peers and offered the opportunity to accept accountability for their minor crimes without having to incur a permanent record.

The program is designed to reduce the number of youth offenders and educate them in a realistic court environment. Since Teen Court’s establishment in March 2001, thousands of teens have taken the opportunity to accept responsibility for their actions and change their behavior.

Teen Court also gives teens who are interested in the judicial system the opportunity to help their peers while gaining first-hand knowledge of the court system. The program offers adult volunteer opportunities as well.

Here we have Mercer County Teen Court at Mercer County Courthouse. These amazing young men and women are learning about our judicial system, offering to be judge, attorney, and jury. But we go much deeper than that. We also teach them life tools, mental and physical health interventions, and leadership skills thanks to local and state funding, as well as generous support from Sisters of St. Joseph Health and Wellness Foundation, and people like you, yes YOU🫵

You can assure this program and programs like it not only continue but expand their reach. You can make a one time contribution, become a monthly sponsor, give 25 for 25 ($25 monthly to celebrate our 25th, by going here, https://www.childlawservices.org

As we continue to celebrate our 25th anniversary, we want to highlight our amazing team. Just as we cannot do all we do without your support, we cannot service the children of West Virginia without our team of superstars!

Tiffany Arnett has been working with ChildLaw Services, Inc. as a victims advocate/office staff. in our
Martinsburg office Prior to working with ChildLaw she worked as a World Language educator for more than 20 years. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese, but enjoys sharing the love of reading with our clients most of all. Representing ChildLaw, she actively volunteers with Read Aloud WV in Berkeley County Schools and always encourages the importance of reading with the children we represent. Additionally, Tiffany’s talents are expressed through her grant writing skills and promoting our First book program to expand the Jane Martin Legacy Library in the Eastern Panhandle. Tiffany believes in our mission and support our Guardian ad Litem attorneys by helping to provide a voice to the children in the cases in which they are involved.

Tiffany is a superstar. And we’re so grateful to have her on our team⭐️

As May and Foster Care Awareness Month comes to a close, let us remeber that spreading awareness, supporting kids from basic supplies to aging out, supporting foster families, and system reform are needed everyday not just March.

In West Virginia on any given day out foster care our foster care system has more than 6,000 West Virginian children in foster care, there is always a need for foster parents, resources, and essential items.

This is the the very reason our Helping Hands program was created. Mrs. Geraldine Childress donated money to our organization every month for as far back as we have records.
More often than not though, her contributions went directly to helping a child at a critical time in their life. The young woman whose hotel bill she paid for on her 18th birthday when she was turned out of a residential facility with no family and nowhere to go. The sisters who had been separated by several states after experiencing terrible sexual abuse, and her money paid for their reunion. The graduation present for the boy who aged out in a facility with no family, are just a few examples of how her monthly giving helped!

Helping Hands has provide beds, bunk beds, luggage, clothing, shoes, personal hygiene supplies, school supplies, and so many other needed essentials to help kids in the most difficult time and to help the foster families from incurring the financial burden.

This is why monthly sponsorship and Helping Hands are crucial to our kiddos! Please consider becoming a monthly sponsor here, https://www.childlawservices.org

We are in the final week of Mental Health Awareness Month !

It’s important to know that practicing mental health tools is like working out a muscle- the more you do it the stronger it gets!

Set a time aside each day to work on improving your mental health. It’s as simple as sitting comfortably practicing intentional breath work, or taking a walk in nature (great for mind and body), making lists before bed so your brain can rest and get a good night sleep, journaling is a great way to get the thoughts that keep racing through your head out, getting creative -painting, dancing, singing, crafting, gardening.

When you take time for mental health, especially doing something you enjoy, happiness is organic!
