The loss of Dolly Parton is felt far and wide because she was a rare, universally beloved figure who felt like a permanent part of the cultural fabric. Dolly transcends generations, musical tastes, and political lines at a time when much of society felt deeply divided. Most viewed her as a larger-than-life, reassuring presence who would always be here.

Dolly had humble Appalachian roots. She never forgot her upbringing in a poor Tennessee family, making her success feel earned and her empathy feel genuine. She was known for real, active philanthropy. Through her Imagination Library program, she mailed nearly 300 million free books to children globally, directly investing in communities.

Dolly has inspired us all in so many ways. In fact, her Imagination Library inspired us at ChildLaw with our first program, First Book. Every child deserves a chance to own a book, regardless of economic or environmental circumstances. Reading books is one of the most effective methods for the acquisition of knowledge, because it’s an opportunity to stand on the shoulders of giants, to learn from others experiences, trials and tribulations, experiments, time, effort and expertise.

We our honored to carry on a small part of her epic legacy. Your light will always shine bright Dolly, Rest in Peace

This month we are highlighting ALL things nonprofit!

National Council of Nonprofits is a trusted resource and leading advocate for America’s charitable nonprofits. They identify emerging trends, share proven practices, and promote solutions that benefit charitable nonprofits and the communities they serve.

They help nonprofit advance their missions!

NCN reports are so informative for us as a nonprofit, and for you, as supporters and recipients of nonprofit services!

Nonprofits work on the front lines of pressing social challenges. That position of being so close to the problems means that nonprofits are also closest to possible solutions.

We cannot do ALL we do without the generosity of our Partners💙🩵

On Fridays we highlight our generous partners. This month we are highlighting ALL things nonprofit. This is the perfect opportunity to talk about the importance of partnerships to nonprofits and the many ways partners evolve!

We exclusively work with West Virginia children, and we are not alone. There are so many individuals and organizations that are champions for our children. So often we have the honor of working alongside with them, collaborating, leaning on each other, celebrating victories, and sharing the weight of this precious mission. This may not be financial support, but it is priceless.

Bob Noone & Beth Hughes are two such individuals, and one dynamic duo! Bob as an adoption attorney and Beth as a Play Therapist. Both have worked tirelessly for the children of West Virginia.

Bob & Beth have partnered with us many ways over the years. A couple years ago they became Legacy Partners with a very generous gift! Although their generous donation was gifted a couple years ago, some seeds take longer to mature, but when they do the harvest is bountiful!

Stay tuned as this story unfolds…

Thank you Bob & Beth for entrusting your legacy to us, we are excited to share what we’ve been up to🩵💙

Today’s WINSday Storytime is about a case that involved an older teen with one parent who wasn't present and another who has been a nonfunctioning addict for years.

The teen had been floundering on their own for a good part of their childhood although they lived with their permissive grandparents intermittedly. The teen was very behind in academically, there was no interest or investment in their future.

While we only had the case for a few months,we are very proud of the services our victims advocate was able to provide. Our advocate thoroughly evaluated the situation, ensuring that we came up with a school plan for success(online GED), facilitated the transfer of schools, holding the teen accountable for progress with their school work, checking in on the teen regularly, supporting their future goals, and educating the teen on financial and career resources that can be available to them to help them succeed once they became an adult.

Our advocate also advocated for them to get a clothing voucher and a laptop to facillitate their education, and ensuring they had the tools they needed. While we are unsure of the road the teen will take going further, we know that we gave great effort to provide them with the tools, knowledge and positive support to know that they can do it and how to do it when they is ready to do so.

This illustrates the difference our victims advocates make everyday in the lives of West Virginia children, no matter what age. None of these things would have been done for this older teen if we did not have this victims advocate who is critical team member.
