Recently featured in Law360 after speaking on an NJSBA panel about AI and the practice of law. In the legal world, that’s a pretty big deal. 😉
One thing I love about AI is that it makes legal information more accessible.
One thing that concerns me is that many business owners don’t realize the risks of relying on AI for legal advice.
In the past few months alone, I’ve had clients come to me after spending hours with AI trying to solve legal problems, only to end up overwhelmed, confused, and no closer to a reliable answer.
I’ve also reviewed AI-generated contracts that weren’t enforceable, missed key protections, or simply didn’t fit the client’s actual needs.
Why? Because legal compliance often lives in the gray areas.
A few risks I see all the time:
• AI can sound confident when it’s wrong
• AI won’t identify risks you haven’t asked about
• AI often agrees with your assumptions instead of challenging them
• Uploading sensitive information can create confidentiality breaches
• AI-generated contracts and policies often miss important legal requirements
• Fixing mistakes later can cost far more than getting legal advice upfront
My take: use AI to educate yourself. Use a lawyer to protect yourself.
AI is a great tool, but it can’t replace legal judgment, strategy, or experience.
