How much does a disability lawyer cost?

05/25/2026

🇺🇸 Today we pause to honor and remember the men and women who gave everything in service to our country. Memorial Day is more than a holiday — it's a solemn reminder of the sacrifice that preserves the freedoms we sometimes take for granted.

To every Gold Star family and veteran community here in Eastern Kentucky and across the nation — we are grateful beyond words.

Our office is closed today in observance of Memorial Day. We will be back in the office tomorrow, Tuesday, May 26th.

Thank you to all who served. 🙏

3 Ways You Can Increase Your Chances of Winning Your Disability Claim

04/12/2026

I have to get this off my chest.

After working with many SSDI firms over the years, I’ve seen a clear divide: some truly advocate for their clients, and some simply process files.

In my view, going into a disability hearing without a strong pre-hearing brief is unacceptable. That brief is your opportunity to frame the case, highlight the medical evidence, apply the law, and show exactly why your client should win. Handing the case over to the ALJ with no roadmap is not advocacy.

Almost as bad is the generic, copy-and-paste brief that just summarizes records with no real argument. A stack of medical notes is not a legal strategy.

At Hicks Law Firm, every client deserves more than paperwork. They deserve a case built for approval. That means a real pre-hearing brief, real analysis, and real advocacy designed to win at the hearing level—and protect the case on appeal if necessary.

That’s the difference between processing claims and fighting for people.

Proud moment for our office this week.

Last week, we won a Social Security Disability hearing for a former SSA claims representative — someone who spent her career helping others navigate the very system that ultimately failed her when she needed it most.

After years of working inside Social Security, she knew exactly how difficult the process can be. And when her own health forced her to stop working, the system she served for so long turned its back on her.

She chose Hicks Law Firm to fight her case — and after a long, hard battle, the Administrative Law Judge issued a fully favorable decision awarding benefits.

Cases like this remind me why we do what we do. Even when someone knows the system inside and out, they can still be denied. And sometimes it takes persistence, preparation, and a willingness to fight all the way through a hearing to get the right outcome.

If you or someone you know is struggling with a disability claim, we’re here to help.

⚖️ WHEN FIGHTING BACK PAYS OFF ⚖️

Imagine working for the same employer for years, then developing a painful, degenerative condition that makes it impossible to continue working. Your own doctors say you're disabled. You apply for the disability retirement benefits you've earned.

And your employer says no.

That's exactly what happened to our client - a dedicated employee of a large Appalachian healthcare provider who suffered from severe, chronic hip pain due to a congenital condition.

Despite clear medical evidence of disability, the employer denied her claim, forcing her to take them to federal court.

Last week, we won.

U.S. District Judge Robert E. Wier ruled that the employer's denial was "arbitrary and capricious," criticized the flawed medical opinions they relied on, and ordered them to pay our client the disability benefits she was entitled to all along.

The Court wrote that the evidence "overwhelmingly demonstrates" our client was disabled and unable to work.

Justice prevailed. Our client will now receive her benefits - past and future.

If your employer has denied your disability claim, don't give up. Contact us. We fight for workers' rights.
