Happy Mother's Day to all! The bio moms, stepmoms, foster moms, grandmas that are being mom, the women who with or without biological kids of their own are taking on guardianship or the mother role for kids they had no obligation to but chose anyway, the aunts, the best friends, the cousins, the big sisters, and all of those who are standing in as a safe haven for kids - biologically theirs or not πŸ’•

To raise a child is a job that cannot be understated. Whatever Mother's Day looks like for you and yours, we hope you feel love and pride today in the way you've impacted the world at large, but especially the world of your little ones.

I am heartbroken for this community. We lost an amazing deputy who should be remembered for his kindness and willingness to serve. Another officer is in the hospital, and I ask that everyone pray for his full and swift recovery. But every member of the law enforcement community (LEOs, medical, fire, dispatch, admin) and all of those that work closely with them is hurt today, emotionally and mentally. I have had the privilege of working with these guys for years, and this is hard to reconcile.
My prayers are with everyone in this community today and this week. I stand with you all in grief, sadness, and solidarity.

2 years ago I started this firm and hung my shingle! It's one of those decisions so many lawyers think about doing, but there's always underlying fear. What if it doesn't work out? What if I can't handle it all? What if no one hires me?

Well, what if it does work out? What if it's the best decision you ever make, and gives you more freedom and joy than you ever thought?

When I was deciding to do this, I said to friends and family more than once, "I know this is going to be hard and it will take work. But I work hard anyway, and I'm going to keep working hard in any job, so why not do it for myself?"

I think that theme is still a big part of my own life, and part of the advice I give clients. Big decisions aren't easy and can be scary, but everything has its "hard". Choose your hard. Choose the hard that's going to give you the most reward and that is the most right for you.

I'm glad I did. These 2 years have been hard, yes, but it's been more than rewarding. I am so grateful for every single consult and client, friend, referral, family member, share, like, review, and "hang in there" I've had in the last 2 years. It's been everything. Thank you all for your support!

Happy 2 years to my little law firm that could πŸ˜‰πŸ–€πŸ’š

A lot of my divorce clients come in with an "I'm done! I'm free!" attitude, at least at first. But many eventually hit this stage as well. Some feel the sadness and grief of it the whole time, especially the ones who didn't initiate the divorce.

What I know is this: you can love someone and want the best for them, but still choose better for yourself. You can have beautiful memories together and still know that your future can be better. You can create children that are magical and beautiful and your reason for living, but still recognize that their interests are best served by seeing you be a whole and healthy person, even if that means having two houses and two Christmases.

This isn't the rehearsal of life. This is the live show, the time is ticking, and this is the one life you get to live. It is never too late to say, "This isn't how I want to spend the rest of my life."

And if your spouse is the one who left or initiated a divorce you didn't want, let me be clear: You deserve more than to be with someone who didn't want to be there anymore. You don't want to be with someone who is wishing they weren't with you. You deserve more. So do they.

You can miss something and grieve something and still know it's not meant to be yours anymore.
