Last week at our annual holiday party, CEO, Kaveri Subbarao Nauhaus had the honor of presenting the Barnett I. Shur Civic Awards and the Sumner T. Bernstein Pro Bono Award to three remarkable colleagues who exemplify our firm’s longstanding commitment to service, equity, and community.

2025 Barnett I. Shur Community Service Award Recipients:
🌟 Sarah Resah Wilson, an integral member of Bernstein Shur for more than 27 years, who contributes more than 360 hours annually to the International Chapter of the P.E.O. Sisterhood reflecting her deep commitment to empowering women through education and opportunity.

🌟Carli Labrecque, an associate attorney who serves as President of the Board of Our Place Portland, volunteers with NAMI Maine, assists victims of domestic violence through regional nonprofits, and spearheads independent outreach efforts for unhoused residents in Portland.

2025 Sumner T. Bernstein Pro Bono Award Recipient:
🌟Hilary Rheaume, shareholder, Labor & Employment group co-chair and Director of Community Engagement at the firm whose leadership extends beyond Bernstein Shur to serve on the boards of New Hampshire Legal Assistance, the New Hampshire Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence, and Families in Transition.

Our Portland and Manchester offices kicked off the holiday season with a pair of Thanksgiving potlucks that brought the whole firm together, providing a moment to pause, share a meal, and celebrate what we’re grateful for after an exciting year.

As part of our Giving Campaign, team members took part in a new tradition: paying $2 to buy a small rubber duckie and pairing it with a handwritten note of gratitude for a colleague, with all proceeds benefitting Families in Transition and Good Shepherd Food Bank.

We’re grateful for the people who make this firm what it is and for the communities in which we're proud to work. Wishing everyone a warm, joyful, and restorative Thanksgiving holiday! 🦃🧡🦆

🎉 This past week, our firm had the privilege of celebrating a remarkable occasion: founding partner Lenny Nelson’s 90th birthday.

The celebration brought together Lenny’s family and his colleagues, who heard toasts filled with heartfelt remarks, plenty of humor, and Lenny’s own “five pieces of advice” for a life well lived. We were all reminded why he’s such a vital part of our firm—a bridge from the vision of the original founders to the spirit and values that define Bernstein Shur today.

Lenny is one of the four visionaries who built our firm from the ground up, and for 65 years (and counting!), he has been the beating heart of Bernstein Shur. This week's celebration was a reflection of everything he’s given to this firm, and to all of us lucky enough to know him.

Here’s to Lenny: a legendary lawyer, inspiration to many, and living proof that passion and purpose keep us forever young.

We kicked off summer in style this week with a rooftop party at The Roux Institute at Northeastern University—and what a celebration it was!

🍗 We enjoyed delicious food catered by Southern Spoon, tasty drinks courtesy of The Roaming Speakeasy, and a super cool science show by Mad Science of Maine that kept both kids and adults entertained.

🎁 And let’s not forget the gift basket raffle—congrats to the lucky winners of Coastal Escape, Garden Giveaway, Bar-B-Que Bonanza, and Outdoor Adventure!
